Goldstine tells how, through wartime work, he got to know Oswald Veblen. Goldstine talks about the group that worked at Aberdeen Proving Grounds during the war and about how he came to be in charge of the Ballistic Research Laboratory project at the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania (the laboratory which built the ENIAC). Goldstine gives his recollections and impressions of, especially Veblen and von Neumann, and of G. A. Bliss, Enrico Fermi, Kurt Gòˆdel, Hermann Weyl, and others.
